Jurnal Ilmiah Keperawatan Indonesia (Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal) Volume 1 began in 2011, precisely 11 years after the establishment of the Indonesian Advanced School of Health Sciences (STIKIM). The creation of the Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal was initiated by the leadership of STIKIM to promote research activities and scholarly publication among the academic community at STIKIM. Additionally, the Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal serves as a platform for scholarly publication for external parties associated with STIKIM, such as professors, students, and researchers, in the field of healthcare. The Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal was initially developed with a print ISSN, bearing the number 2252-4096. The editorial team of the Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal agreed to continue expanding the volume and number of publications as a platform for research publication in the field of nursing.

The online ISSN for the Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal was later assigned, with the number 2354-8177. Moreover, the Open Journal System (OJS) was implemented at STIKIM starting in mid-2018. The editorial team of the Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal began using OJS in early 2018, starting with Volume 7, Number 04. The Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal has been dedicated to enhancing journal management, OJS implementation, and publication in SINTA-accredited and internationally accredited journals. The editorial team of the Indonesian Nursing Scientific Journal made revisions as advised by SINTA assessors for the improvement of Volume 08, Number 02, 2018, Volume 08, Number 01, 2018, and Volume 07, Number 04, 2017, in order to re-upload these volumes to the journal without compromising the quality of the journal content. Volume 11, Number 02, 2021, experienced a delay in publishing articles due to the migration and backup of OJS data to a new hosting platform. From Volume 11, Number 01, 2021, and onward, the journal has been using a new article template, which can be downloaded from the front page (the new article template).

Starting from Volume 13, Number 03, 2023, the journal has adopted a different article template for Case Studies and has consolidated the format of Author Biodata and Statement of Originality into a single format within the Title Page file.
